our History
The inspiration for Vietnam Health Clinic (VHC) came from a medical mission trip to Honduras in 2008, where a group of young students experienced firsthand the impact of a student-led mobile clinic. The trip provided valuable insight into how structured, volunteer-driven healthcare services could reach underserved communities. With healthcare professionals guiding them, the students played an active role in clinic operations, working alongside local providers to deliver care in rural villages.
Motivated by this experience, the students sought to bring a similar model to Vietnam, where access to healthcare in rural areas remained a critical challenge. Despite limited Vietnamese language skills, they connected with local healthcare providers and organizations to establish a student-led initiative. In 2009, Vietnam Health Clinic was founded, launching its first mobile clinic to serve underserved populations in Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, and Binh Duong.
Since its inception, VHC has grown significantly, expanding its reach to central regions such as Hue and Da Nang and traveling as far south as Can Tho and Soc Trang. Over the years, VHC has remained committed to its mission of bridging healthcare gaps while fostering leadership and professional development among its members. As VHC continues to evolve, it strives to move beyond short-term relief efforts toward a sustainable model of care, empowering local healthcare providers and ensuring lasting impact in the communities it serves.
